Back in 2010, Nikos Drandakis reached out to George Tziralis to share an idea on a piece of paper.
The starting observation was simple. You are surrounded by available taxis but you cannot always find one when you need one. You should be able not just to see them but to choose the one you want straight from your smartphone.
It was early days for mobile and 'hybrid' startups with offline operations felt like a wild bet.
Nikos meticulously built a team, crafted a world-class application and onboarded a group of drivers, one by one.
In February 2017, myTaxi, a subsidiary of Daimler, announced the acquisition of Taxibeat. It is the most prominent acquisition of a startup in the local ecosystem to date.
Fast forward to today, Taxibeat employs 300+ people and serves tens of thousands of rides every day in Athens, Lima, Peru and Santiago, Chile. It has built one of the best software stacks in an ultra-competitive global industry and it has done so out of Greece.
