It was 2012 when Alexandros Marinos signed a contract that would see his software agency take care of the display screens found on recycling bins across London.
In practical terms, they had to update and manage hundreds of devices all over the city. Web developers have a plethora of devops tools and techniques to streamline operations but IoT developers were stuck to burning SD cards.
The solution was to combine modern devops practices with the IoT development cycle. The tool they developed in-house worked so well that Alexandros realized they had made something others would want.
When Panos saw an early demo of what would become Resin.io, his message to Alexandros was straightforward: “Drop whatever you are doing and come with me to San Francisco. Sleep on my couch and don’t leave before you raise proper money”. He also became an angel in Resin.io.
Panos is one of the core reasons why Resin is a success.
By 2017, Resin.io is headquartered in Seattle, WA, employs 50 people across the world and is backed by top-tier VCs, as well as industry giants like General Electric and Ericsson. Resin.io is a partner of Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, IBM Bluemix, Docker, Samsung and others.
Panos is much more than an angel investor to us, we consider him a member of our team.
